At work , we had an older ultrasound technician who came came out of the room , where a young girl and her mom were . The tech said to me,( after doing a pelvic ultrasound ) …” I can’t do my job anymore. “ I said “ what’s wrong?”…. She said “ the young girl has all her female parts and I have to call Steven and the mother yelled at me when I called her Rebecca , which is her name on the chart” …… true story 😫
Once I came of age (18) and left home to make my own life, I never once thought that my parents had failed me or that anything I then encountered was in anyway, shape or form their fault or responsibility. And my family was equally as dysfunctional as the next with all the concommitant neuroses and unconscious complexes found in all of us. But it became my life then, my choices and ultimately, my responsibility, not theirs.
Your point is well taken Gwyneth, but here is some food for thought. Your generation spent far less time with a malevolent babysitter (LED screens) and far more time in the rough and tumble outside sunlit world of kinetic real-life experience which hardened your body, spirit, and mind.
While their parents order poison take-out for them to consume from McDonald's and concern themselves with their own screens which are primarily geared toward them pretending they are better and happier than everyone else.
While you and your situation are likely an exception, in aggregate, apples and oranges are being compared here and the next generation (ie the future of mankind) hangs in the balance.
A beautiful and haunting song which I loved and understood the first time I heard it. I do understand what you are speaking of as I agree, there are so many ways in which the chidren of this world have been damaged and the mantle that has been handed them to assume is dirty and tattered beyond recognition.
